ExcursionsFor the excursions, keep the following points in mind : - It can get very hot in Montpellier during the summer. This, bring a hat or cap to protect you from the sun. - Bring a water bottle with you. - Participants, who intend to go to the canoe tour should bring a swimming suit and a towel. - Participants going to the Camarque are recommended to wear long and light coloured clothes, as protection against mosquitoes. Furthermore, using mosquito repellent is recommended. Take a jumper or jacket with you, for those visiting the Clamouse cave (around 15°C = 59° Fahrenheit). Departure from the Institute SupAgro Montpellier (2 place Pierre Viala) at 08:30 am, return at 07:00 pm. Lunch boxes will be provided.
Excursion options on the last day, Friday July 8, 2022 : 1) Hérault Valley Option a) : Hérault canyon - canoe trip / Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert village You will discover the Hérault canyon by a 12 kilometers canoe descent. Afterwards, you will have a walk in the medieval city of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, stopover on the Saint James of Compostela way, and ranked amongst the most beautiful villages of France.
Option b) : Wine tasting - little train / Clamouse cave / Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert village This tour option will also lead you to the Hérault valley, where you will have the opportunity to visit some vineyards by a ride on a little train, and you will taste some local wines. Furthermore, you will discover the famous concretions of the Clamouse cave. Finally, you will have a walk in the medieval city of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, stopover on the Saint James of Compostela way, and classified as amongst the most beautiful villages of France. (duration: 1 day; 40 km from Montpellier)
2) Mediterranean ecosystems: Camargue / Pont du Gard This excursion will be an opportunity to go for a walk (2h 30min) with a guide in the Vigueirat marshes to discover the birds, the flora and the landscapes of a typical wetland of the Camargue. Afterwards, you will discover the famous Roman aqueduct of the Pont du Gard and the surrounding scrubland. (duration: 1 day; 100 km from Montpellier)
